Portland Pirates head coach Tim Army announced today that center Chris Bourque, son of Hall of Fame defenseman Ray Bourque, has signed an amateur try-out contract with the Pirates. Bourque comes to Portland after finishing his freshman year at Boston University.
The 5-foot-8, 175-pound forward was a second-round pick of the Washington Capitals in the 2004 NHL draft.
This season with the Terriers, Bourque was named to the Hockey East all-rookie team after recording 10 goals and 13 assists in 35 games. He was also named the Most Valuable Player of the Beanpot tournament after notching the game-winning goal in overtime against Northeastern in the title game.
