Power surge in Hershey

Graham Mink scored twice and Jared Aulin recorded three assists as Hershey went an incredible 7-for-18 on the power play en route to a 7-2 victory over Philadelphia at Giant Center on Saturday night.

A steady parade of Phantoms made its way to the penalty box throughout the night, as Hershey scored six times on 5-on-3’s. Philadelphia was assessed 90 minutes in penalties total, and was 1-for-9 itself on the power play.

The game was tied at 1-1 before Louis Robitaille put the Bears up for good at the 7:10 mark of the second period. Mink netted his second of the night and 12th of the season 54 seconds later.

The wheels fell off in the third period, as Hershey spent nearly eight consecutive minutes with the man advantage, scoring four times in a span of 3:38 to take a 7-1 lead. Eric Fehr, Mark Wotton, Boyd Kane and Dave Steckel wrapped up the Bears scoring.

The seven power-play goals were a team record for the 68-year-old Bears franchise, and were the most by an AHL team in one game since Kentucky scored seven times with the man advantage in an 11-6 win over Cincinnati on Oct. 4, 1997.

Hershey finished with a resounding 49-18 edge in shots on goal.
