Rallo lifts Stars to overtime win

TEXAS 3, SAN ANTONIO 2 (OT)
Greg Rallo tied the game at 2-2 in the latter half of the third period and then blasted home a one-timer on the power play 31 seconds into overtime to lift Texas past in-state rival San Antonio by a 3-2 count on Monday at the Cedar Park Center.

Aaron Gagnon tallied the Stars’ other goal before assisting on the overtime game-winner, and Texas netminder Richard Bachman secured the victory with 27 saves on 29 shots in net.

Gagnon gave Texas a 1-0 lead at 17:47 of the opening period – with Rallo earning a helper – but San Antonio tied it on a last-minute goal by defenseman Maxim Goncharov and then grabbed a 2-1 advantage when Alexandre Picard scored midway through the middle frame. Bracken Kearns assisted on both goals for the Rampage.

San Antonio held its 2-1 through more than half of the third period before Rallo notched the equalizer at 13:22, with Jordie Benn and Sean Backman picking up assists. Gagnon and defenseman Dan Spang then assisted on Rallo’s overtime marker.

Texas wound up 2-for-6 on the power play, and the Stars have now put together back-to-back wins for the first time since winning three in a row from Dec. 28-31.

With the overtime loss, San Antonio moved into a four-way tie with Milwaukee, Oklahoma City, and Houston for second place in the West Division at 56 points apiece, just one point back of front-running Peoria. Texas, meanwhile, now sits just one point back of those four teams in the remarkably tight division race.
