Rampage escape with win

Joel Kwiatkowski scored with 23 seconds remaining in overtime to give San Antonio a 4-3 win over Houston at the SBC Center on Thursday night.

The Rampage now trail the fourth-place Aeros by seven points in the West Division.

San Antonio held a two-goal with less than four minutes to play before Brent Burns and Zbynek Michalek scored late in regulation to tie the score.

But Burns took a tripping penalty in the final minute of overtime, setting up Kwiatkowski’s power-play heroics.

Ryan Jardine had a goal and two assists for the Rampage. Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Rickard Wallin chipped in two assists each for the Aeros.

Graham Mink and Tomas Fleischmann scored early and Kirk Daubenspeck finished with 34 saves as Portland edged Worcester, 2-1.

Mink scored on a power play just 2:18 into the game, and Fleischmann got his seventh goal of the year at 4:53.

Trent Whitfield assisted on both goals for the Pirates.

Daubenspeck upped his record to 8-3-1 in 13 AHL appearances this season.

2005 AHL All-Star Dennis Wideman scored the only goal for the IceCats.
