Rampage host Monsters in New Year’s matinee

San Antonio, winners of nine of its last 12, celebrates the new year with a home date against Lake Erie, which has points in eight of its last 11 (5-3-0-3) heading into today’s matinee at the AT&T Center.

Rampage goalie Josh Tordjman went 9-2-0 in December, but was called up by the Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday. Former AHL All-Star goaltender Al Montoya is looking for his first win since Oct. 25.

Rookies Brett MacLean and Chad Kolarik lead active San Antonio skaters in scoring with 19 points apiece.

The Monsters are without three of their top seven scorers, with Brian Willsie, T.J. Hensick and Chris Stewart all on NHL recall to the Colorado Avalanche. Chris Durno was returned to Lake Erie this morning by the Avs.

Lake Erie goalie Tyler Weiman is 4-1-1 in his last six decisions, and his three shutouts are one off the AHL lead.

It’s the first of four meetings this season between the clubs, and if you can’t make it to the rink, catch all the action on AHL Live, with coverage getting underway at 3:55 p.m. ET.
