Rampage outlast Aeros for 6-3 win

SAN ANTONIO 6, HOUSTON 3
San Antonio racked up six unanswered goals en route to a 6-3 road win over Houston before 11,291 fans in a school-day matinee at Toyota Center on Thursday. Jeff Hoggan and Brett MacLean each netted a pair of goals for the Rampage, who have collected back-to-back wins on the heels of an 11-game winless skid (0-9-1-1).

The teams played a scoreless first period before turning it into a battle of offenses in the middle frame.

The Aeros staked themselves to a 3-0 lead with three goals in a 1:28 span, as Chad Rau (4:28), Jean-Michel Daoust (5:12), and ex-Rampage Jon DiSalvatore (5:56) all found the back of the net.

But San Antonio matched the performance, knotting the score back up by scoring three of its own in a span of 1:36. Jeff Hoggan began the comeback at 7:42, and MacLean lit the lamp at 8:27 and 9:18, the latter goal coming on the power play.

Kevin Porter then capped off the Rampage’s four-goal period with the go-ahead marker at 12:22, and San Antonio padded its lead on third-period strikes by Chad Kolarik and Hoggan, who scored shorthanded midway through the frame.

Defensemen Sean Sullivan (0-3-3) and Sean Zimmerman (0-2-2) each had multiple assists for the Rampage, who show 11 goals in their last two games after totaling 16 scores in their previous 11 outings.

San Antonio goaltender Justin Pogge earned the win with 29 saves in his first AHL appearance of the season.

Houston’s four-game points streak (2-0-1-1) came to an end.
