Rangers agree to terms with McKegg, O’Regan

The New York Rangers have agreed to terms with free-agent forwards Greg McKegg and Danny O’Regan.

McKegg, 27, notched six goals and 17 assists for 23 points in 31 games with the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers in 2018-19. He finished the season in the NHL, recording six goals and five assists in 41 regular-season games with the Carolina Hurricanes before contributing two goals in 14 Stanley Cup Playoff contests.

A third-round draft pick by Toronto in 2010, McKegg has played 322 games in the AHL with Charlotte, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Springfield, Portland and Toronto, notching 82 goals and 111 assists for 193 points. He has added 10 goals and 10 assists in 39 Calder Cup Playoff games.

The native of St. Thomas, Ont., has 13 goals and 11 assists in 132 NHL games with Carolina, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Florida and Toronto.

O’Regan, 25, completed his third pro season in 2018-19 and recorded 20 goals and 28 assists for 48 points in 70 games with the AHL’s Rochester Americans. He also skated in one contest with the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres.

The AHL’s Rookie of the Year in 2016-17, O’Regan has appeared in 182 AHL games with Rochester and San Jose, and has picked up 56 goals and 90 assists for 146 points.

In 25 NHL games with Buffalo and San Jose, O’Regan has notched one goal and four assists.
