Rangers assign Dawes to Hartford

The New York Rangers announced today that left wing Nigel Dawes has been reassigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League.

Additionally, defenseman Darius Kasparaitis has been recalled from Hartford.

Dawes, 21, registered one goal in eight games with the Rangers this season. He tallied his first career NHL goal in a 5-4 win at Toronto on Oct. 21.

Prior to the season, he was named a winner of this year’s Lars-Erik Sjoberg Award, given to the best rookie in Rangers training camp as voted by select New York media, along with Brandon Dubinsky.

Last season, Dawes was one of the top rookies in the AHL, tallying 35 goals and 32 assists for 67 points in 77 games with the Wolf Pack. Dawes also had six goals and six assists for 12 points in 13 Calder Cup Playoff games.

Kasparaitis registered two assists in seven games with Hartford (AHL) after being assigned to the Wolf Pack on a conditioning assignment. In six games with the Rangers this season, he has registered one assist and 10 penalty minutes. Kasparaitis missed the first five games of the season recovering from off-season injuries. He underwent shoulder surgery on May 10  to repair a tear in his labrum and also underwent surgery on June 14 to repair a torn side muscle.
