Rangers, Capitals organizations make trades

The Hershey Bears have acquired forward Joe Whitney from the Hartford Wolf Pack in exchange for defenseman Hubert Labrie, while the Washington Capitals acquired forward Adam Chapie from the New York Rangers for forward John Albert.

Whitney, an AHL All-Star in 2014 and 2015, has nine goals and 10 assists in 40 games while serving as captain of the Wolf Pack in 2017-18.

The native of Reading, Mass., has played 428 career AHL games with Portland, Albany, Bridgeport, San Antonio, Tucson and Hartford, recording 123 goals and 174 assists for 297 points.

Whitney, 30, has skated in five career National Hockey League games with New Jersey, tallying one goal.

Chapie, 26, has two goals and five assists in 31 games with Hartford this season.

A native of Oxford, Mich., Chapie is in his second pro season split between Hartford and its ECHL affiliate, Greenville.

Albert, 29, has played 33 games with Hershey this season, collecting three goals and eight assists for 11 points.

Albert has appeared in 316 career AHL games with St. John’s, Manitoba and Hershey, recording 71 goals and 95 assists for 166 points. He also has 12 points in 36 postseason games, reaching the Calder Cup Finals with St. John’s in 2014.

The Cleveland, Ohio, native was a sixth-round draft pick by Atlanta in 2007 and has appeared in nine career NHL games, scoring a goal in his debut with Winnipeg on Dec. 2, 2013, against the Rangers.

Labrie, 26, has skated in 35 AHL games with Hershey this season, tallying one goal and six assists.

In 316 AHL games with Hershey, Chicago, San Antonio, Springfield and Texas, Labrie has notched 11 goals and 40 assists for 51 points. He won the Calder Cup with Texas in 2014.
