Red Wings agree to terms with Puempel

The Detroit Red Wings have agreed to terms with right wing Matt Puempel on a two-year contract.

Puempel, 25, was acquired by the Red Wings on Oct. 21, 2017, in a trade with the New York Rangers. He was an AHL All-Star last season, totaling 23 goals and 34 assists for 57 points in 62 regular-season games between Grand Rapids and Hartford.

Puempel added one goal and three assists in five Calder Cup Playoff games for the Griffins.

A first-round draft choice by Ottawa in 2011, Puempel has recorded 10 goals and five assists for 15 points in 79 career NHL games with Ottawa and the New York Rangers. He has also skated in 232 contests in the AHL, notching 83 goals and 85 assists for 168 points — including a 30-goal rookie season in 2013-14.
