Red Wings, Coyotes make swap

The Arizona Coyotes have acquired defenseman Vili Saarijarvi from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for goaltender Eric Comrie.

Saarijarvi, 22, has recorded one assist in 13 games with the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins this season. The native of Rovaniemi, Finland, has totaled two goals and 26 assists in 125 career AHL contests, all with the Griffins.

Saarijarvi was a third-round choice by Detroit in the 2015 NHL Draft.

Comrie, 24, is 4-0-0 in four appearances with the AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners this season, posting a 2.75 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage.

An AHL All-Star in 2016, Comrie set career highs in victories (25) and save percentage (.917) last season. He was a second-round choice by Winnipeg in the 2013 NHL Draft and has appeared in five career NHL contests with the Jets. Comrie was claimed off waivers by Arizona on Oct. 1, 2019.

In 187 career AHL games with Tucson, Manitoba and St. John’s, Comrie has a record of 81-83-20 with a 2.88 GAA, a .910 save percentage and eight shutouts.
