River Rats outlast Pirates, 7-6

Ivan Khomutov scored his second goal of the game at the 2:14 mark of overtime to give Albany a wild 7-6 victory over Portland at the Pepsi Arena on Tuesday night.

Mike Sgroi, known more for his work with his fists than with his stick, netted a hat trick for the River Rats, while Aleksander Suglobov, David Clarkson, Jason Ryznar and Brad Ference recorded two assists apiece.

Albany did not lead all night until Khomutov’s game-winner.

Dustin Penner had two goals and two assists for the Pirates, who led 2-0, 4-2, 5-3 and 6-5. Ryan Shannon added three points with a goal and two assists, and Corey Perry extended his scoring streak to 14 games with a goal.
