River Rats sign goaltender Morrison

The Albany River Rats announced today that the American Hockey League club has signed veteran goaltender Mike Morrison to a one-year, two-way contract.

Originally selected in the seventh round (186th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, Morrison turned pro in 2002 after completing a four-year collegiate career at the University of Maine.

The Medford, Mass., native has appeared in 29 National Hockey League contests with Ottawa, Phoenix and Edmonton. His most prolific NHL stint came in 2005-06, when Morrison appeared in 21 contests with the Oilers and posted a 10-4-2 record with a 2.83 goals-against average and an .884 save percentage.

Morrison has made 86 appearances in the AHL with Bridgeport, San Antonio, Edmonton and the Toronto Roadrunners, going 37-31-8 with 10 shutouts.

Morrison played last season in Slovenia and Sweden.
