Rivermen add Allen as assistant

Peoria Rivermen general manager Kevin McDonald announced today that the St. Louis Blues have named Scott Allen as an assistant coach of the Rivermen.

He joins new Rivermen head coach Dave Allison on the bench.

Allen, 46, spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach with the National Hockey League’s New York Islanders. Prior to joining the Islanders, he had spent the previous seven years in the American Hockey League as either a head coach or assistant coach.

The New Bedford, Mass., native began his coaching career in 1996 as an assistant with Johnstown (ECHL) before taking over as head coach in 1997. He led the Chiefs to three straight playoff appearances.

After six years with the Chiefs, Allen joined the Florida Panthers’ AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage, for two seasons from 2002-04. Allen earned two separate stints as San Antonio’s head coach and guided the team to the Calder Cup Playoffs in its inaugural season.

Allen joined the Calgary organization in 2004 and served as an assistant for the Flames’ AHL affiliates in Lowell (2004-05), Omaha (2005-07) and Quad City (2007-09).
