Rivermen name Baseggio head coach

The St. Louis Blues announced today the club has named Dave Baseggio as head coach of the AHL’s Peoria Rivermen.

“The Blues organization is excited to announce Dave as our new head coach in Peoria,” said Blues team president John Davidson. “He brings five years of AHL coaching experience and his reputation as an excellent teacher will work well with our young talent in Peoria.”

Baseggio, 38, has spent the last five seasons with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, including last season as the head coach. He posted a 38-33-6-3 record with Bridgeport last season, leading the Sound Tigers to a berth in the Calder Cup Playoffs.

During his four years as an assistant coach in Bridgeport, Baseggio helped the Sound Tigers to three postseason appearances, including a trip to the 2002 Calder Cup Finals.

The Niagara Falls, Ont., native, spent 10 seasons in professional hockey as a player, highlighted by AHL stints in Rochester, New Haven and Worcester.
