Rivermen stop streaking Stars, move closer to playoffs

After falling behind 1-0 heading into the second period, the Peoria Rivermen rattled off three unanswered goals to defeat the Iowa Stars 3-1 at Wells Fargo Arena in a key divisional match-up on Thursday.

Mike Glumac kicked off the scoring for the Rivermen, who tallied two of its three goals on the night on the man advantage.

Jon DiSalvatore and Ryan Ramsay provided the other goals as defenseman Jamie Rivers added two assists for Peoria, who ended the Stars streak of five straight wins.

Chris Beckford-Tseu earned his ninth win of the year by stopping 26 of 27 shots on the night for Peoria, who remain unbeaten in regulation in its last five games, going 3-0-0-2 in that span.

With the win the Rivermen improve their record to 29-20-2-4 and 64 points and move to within two points of Iowa for fourth place in the West Division, with five games in hand on the Stars.

They also sit one point in the standings behind Grand Rapids in the North Division for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, with three games in hand on the Griffins.

Chris Conner scored the lone goal for Iowa in the loss.
