Rocket ink defenseman Gelinas

The Laval Rocket have agreed to terms on a one-year AHL contract with free-agent defenseman Eric Gelinas.

Gelinas was invited to Montreal Canadiens training camp on a professional tryout and recorded one goal in three preseason games.

The 26-year-old Gelinas recorded three goals and nine assists for 12 points in 27 AHL games with San Antonio last season. He added one assist in 27 NHL games with the Colorado Avalanche.

Originally a second-round draft pick by the New Jersey Devils in 2009, Gelinas has appeared in 189 NHL games over six professional seasons with New Jersey and Colorado, totaling 14 goals and 41 assists for 55 points.

He has played 172 AHL games with Albany and San Antonio, recording 26 goals and 50 assists for 76 points.
