Sabres sign former AHL All-Star Darche

The Buffalo Sabres, parent club of the AHL’s Portland Pirates, on Thursday announced the signing of unrestricted free agent Mathieu Darche.

The left winger spent the 2007-08 season with Tampa Bay, recording a career-high 22 points (7 goals, 15 assists) in 73 games. He also picked up 10 points (3g, 7a) in four games with Norfolk (AHL), and was named the Rbk/AHL Player of the Week following his stint with the Admirals.

A native of Montreal, Darche has 165 goals and 187 assists for 352 points in 440 career AHL games with Norfolk, Worcester, Hershey, Milwaukee and Syracuse. He has posted five 20-goal seasons in the AHL and set career highs in goals (35), assists (45) and points (80) with Worcester in 2006-07. Darche played in the 2007 AHL All-Star Classic and won a Calder Cup with Milwaukee in 2004.

Darche has 24 points (8g, 16a) in 101 career NHL games with Columbus, Nashville, San Jose and Tampa Bay.
