San Jose signs Matsumoto

The San Jose Sharks, parent club of the AHL’s Worcester Sharks, announced Thursday that the team has signed forward Jon Matsumoto to a one-year contract.

Matsumoto, 25, totaled 23 goals and 37 assists for 60 points in 76 AHL games with Charlotte and San Antonio in 2011-12. He also appeared in one NHL game for Florida.

Matsumoto has combined to post 124 goals and 157 assists for 281 points in 392 career regular-season games at the AHL level with San Antonio, Charlotte and Adirondack/Philadelphia, reaching the 20-goal mark in each of his five seasons. He also has 10 goals and 18 assists in 41 career Calder Cup Playoff games.

A participant in the 2010 AHL All-Star Classic, Matsumoto has totaled two goals in 14 NHL games with Florida and Carolina. The six-foot, 185-pound native of Ottawa, Ont., was originally selected by Philadelphia in the third round of the 2006 NHL Draft.
