The Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned forward Miroslav Satan to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League (AHL), it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero.
Satan, 34, has played in 65 games with the Penguins this season, registering 39 points (17 goals, 19 assists) along with 36 penalty minutes. He ranks fifth on the Penguins with 17 goals and 19 assists. Satan played his 1,000th career game in the NHL February 4 versus Tampa Bay.
The 6-1, 195 pound winger scored 41 points (16 goals, 25 assists) in 80 games with the New York Islanders last season. Satan has played parts of 13 seasons with the Edmonton Oilers, Buffalo Sabres, New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins. He has appeared in 1,012 career games in the NHL, tallying 721 points (354 goals, 367 assists) along with 452 penalty minutes. He has collected 38 points (15 goals, 23 assists) in 56 playoff contests in the NHL. Satan has scored at least 25 goals in nine of his past 12 seasons.
Satan played 25 games in the AHL with the Cape Breton Oilers in 1994-95, scoring 24 goals and adding 16 assists for 40 points.
The native of Topolcany, Slovakia was originally selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the fifth round (111th overall) of the 1993 Entry Draft. He signed with Pittsburgh as a free agent July 3, 2008.
