Senators sign Mapletoft to one-year deal

The Ottawa Senators, parent club of the AHL’s Binghamton Senators, announced today the signing of center Justin Mapletoft to a one-year deal.

Mapletoft, 26, was a 1999 draft choice by the New York Islanders. He spent four seasons (2001-05) in that organization, totaling 47 goals and 83 assists for 130 points in 240 AHL games with Bridgeport. He also helped the Sound Tigers to the Calder Cup Finals as a rookie in 2001-02.

Mapletoft skated in 38 NHL games with the Islanders, recording three goals and six assists. He had spent the last two seasons in Europe, playing for teams in Finland, Sweden and Germany.

As a junior, Mapletoft won a Memorial Cup championship with Red Deer (WHL) in 2001, when he led the league in scoring with 120 points.
