Sens captain Keller earns postseason honor

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Binghamton Senators right wing Ryan Keller has been selected the winner of the reGen™ Muscle Recovery Beverage/AHL Performance of the Playoffs award for the 2011 Calder Cup postseason.

Under Keller’s captaincy, the Senators captured the first championship in 38 seasons of professional hockey in the city of Binghamton. Keller finished the 2011 Calder Cup Playoffs ranked second in the AHL in scoring after putting up 10 goals and 15 assists for 25 points in 23 games.

The Senators’ road to the Calder Cup appeared to be headed for an early finish in the first round when Binghamton fell behind Manchester three games to one. But the Senators recovered in grand fashion with three consecutive overtime victories, capped by Keller’s four-point performance in Game 7.

After the team earned a six-game victory over Portland in the second round, Keller scored a pair of series-clinching goals to lead his club to the title. His overtime marker in Game 4 vs. Charlotte gave Binghamton the Eastern Conference championship, and his third-period tally in Game 6 vs. Houston was the difference in the Senators’ Cup-clinching 3-2 victory in the Finals, enabling Keller, as team captain, to accept the Calder Cup trophy from AHL President and CEO David Andrews.
