Sharks hosting blood drive this Friday

finz_blood_250.jpgThe Worcester Sharks will be teaming with the DCU Center and the New England Surge indoor football team to host a blood drive on Friday, August 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. inside the Convention Center lobby.

The American Red Cross is graciously making arrangements to supply all staffing and equipment needs for this non-profit community event and the Sharks and Surge are providing incentives including game tickets to each presenting donor. Summer is one of the most challenging times for blood donations with vacations keeping potential donors busy.

Sharks president Michael Lehr stated, “The Worcester Sharks are excited to be a part of this Blood Drive for the second year. Each person who helps us in this drive will have the opportunity to come out and enjoy Worcester Sharks hockey. With the Sharks home opener on October 13th, this is a great way to show our continuing commitment to the community.”

Each presenting donor will receive a pair of tickets to a 2007-08 Worcester Sharks home game and a 2008 New England Surge home game. Donors will have the opportunity to meet players from both teams, including Worcester Sharks defenseman and Winchester native Dan Spang from noon to 1:00. Surge mascot Surgeo will be on hand to meet donors from 10-12, and Sharks mascot Finz will help bite for blood from 12-2. Free curbside parking outside the Convention Center on Major Taylor Boulevard will be provided for all donors.

To ensure an even donor flow and less time waiting, donors are encouraged to call the American Red Cross at 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (800) 448-3543 to schedule an appointment to donate.
