Stars’ Dowling named AHL Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Texas Stars center Justin Dowling has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Apr. 5, 2015.

Dowling notched four goals and two assists for six points as the Stars went 3-0-0 and moved closer to securing a berth in the 2015 Calder Cup Playoffs.

On Wednesday night, Dowling scored a pair of goals and assisted on the game-winner as Texas came from behind and defeated Adirondack, 7-4. On Friday in Milwaukee, Dowling recorded an assist in regulation before scoring the deciding goal in the fifth round of the shootout to lead the Stars past the Admirals, 3-2. And on Saturday, Dowling scored twice more, including the game-winning goal, and was named the game’s first star in Texas’s 6-2 win at Chicago.

A 24-year-old native of Cochrane, Alta., Dowling has tallied 21 goals and 26 assists for 47 points in 59 games with Texas this season, and ranks second on the team in goals, points, power-play goals (seven) and game-winners (three). Signed as a free agent by Dallas on Mar. 26, 2014, Dowling won a Calder Cup championship with Texas last season, notching 14 points in 14 playoff contests. The fourth-year pro has appeared in 201 regular-season AHL games with Texas and Abbotsford, recording 51 goals and 79 assists for 130 points.

In recognition of his achievement, Dowling will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Stars home game.
