Stars edge Ads, build cushion in West

TEXAS 4, MILWAUKEE 3
Texas built a 4-1 lead in the third period and survived a late scare to come away with a 4-3 win over Milwaukee on Thursday at the Cedar Park Center. Greg Rallo notched the game-winner for the Stars, who are now six points up on the Admirals for third place in the West Division.

Rallo’s 19th goal of the season came 15:25 into the third frame and gave the Stars a commanding 4-1 lead at the time.

But Milwaukee made interesting late, as Andreas Thuresson (17:05) and Hugh Jessiman (18:27) scored and assisted on each other’s goals to cut the deficit to 4-3.

The Admirals could not get the equalizer, however, and fell to 0-3-0-0 in their last three games and 1-5-0-1 in their last seven contests. Milwaukee remains three points up on San Antonio for the West Division’s fourth and final playoff spot.

Rallo and Aaron Gagnon each finished with a goal and an assist for the Stars, who went 3-for-6 on the power play while holding Milwaukee to an 0-for-3 showing.

Francis Wathier and defenseman Andrew Hutchinson also scored in the winning effort, while Texas goaltender Brent Krahn earned the victory with 26 saves between the pipes.

The Stars improved to 7-2-0-0 in their last nine games as they embark on a season-high seven-game road trip beginning on Saturday in Rockford.
