Stars edge Aeros in first of two-game set

Chris Conner scored twice as the visiting Iowa Stars used the power play to edge the Houston Aeros by the score of 3-2 at the Toyota Center on Thursday.

After two periods of play and the scored knotted at 2-2, Conner tallied his second goal of the night midway through the third period on the man advantage to give Iowa its second-straight win.

Dan Ellis stopped 26 of 28 shots to earn his 17th win of the season, eclipsing last year’s total and marking a new career high.

With the win, the Stars improve their record to 28-24-3-1 and at 60 points, sit just one point behind Peoria for fourth place in the West Division.

Marius Holtet provided the other goal on the night for the Stars, who face off against Houston on Friday in the back end of a two-game set at the Toyota Center.

Peter Olvecky and Joel Ward each scored in a losing effort for Houston.
