Stars outlast Wolves for third straight win

TEXAS 4, CHICAGO 3
Texas defenseman Maxime Fortunus scored his second goal in as many nights, and Fabian Brunnstrom’s early third-period strike lifted the Stars to a 4-3 road win over Chicago on Thursday at Allstate Arena in the teams’ first meeting since the 2010 West Division Finals.

En route to a Calder Cup Finals berth, the Stars took an overtime decision in Game 7 of that series in Chicago to eliminate the division-champion Wolves.

In this contest, Texas built leads of 1-0, 2-1, and 3-2, but Chicago came back each time. Mathieu Tousignant, who notched the decisive shootout marker a night earlier in Rockford, tallied his first goal of the season for the Stars, and rookie Tristan King (1-1-2) joined Fortunus in scoring in his second consecutive game.

Texas forward Luke Gazdic chipped in two assists, and goaltender Richard Bachman stopped 40 of 43 shots to improve to 2-0-0 on the season.

The Stars collected their third win in as many nights and moved to 6-2-0-0 (12 points) overall, two points back of Peoria for first place in the West Division.

Andre Deveaux, Darren Haydar, and Riley Holzapfel found the back of the net for Chicago, which dropped to 1-3-1-0 in five games since a 3-1-0-0 start to the season.
