Stars outshine Aeros in home opener

Chris Conner‘s goal with 10:20 left in regulation snapped a 1-1 tie and propelled Iowa to a 3-1 win over Houston at the Wells Fargo Arena on Thursday night.

It was the third straight win for the Stars and the third straight loss for the Aeros to start the season. The teams play again in Des Moines on Saturday.

Houston’s Wyatt Smith and Iowa’s Mark Ardelan traded power-play goals in the first period, and the tie was preserved until Conner scored his second goal of the season during a 4-on-4 situation.

Junior Lessard capped the scoring with an empty-net tally.

Dan Ellis made 29 saves for the Stars, who have outscored the Aeros 5-0 in the third period of the teams’ first two meetings in 2006-07.
