Stars outshine Rampage, 7-2

Vojtech Polak scored once and added two assists, Toby Petersen netted two goals and Patrick Traverse added four assists as Iowa rolled to a 7-2 win over San Antonio at the Wells Fargo Arena on Sunday evening.

It was the first win in franchise history for the Stars, who had been off to an 0-3-0-0 start.

The 20-year-old Polak, a second-round draft pick by Dallas in 2003, opened the scoring 5:25 into the game, but the clubs traded off four power-play goals and were all square at 2-2 after 20 minutes.

Junior Lessard and Brian Fahey scored 24 seconds apart to give Iowa a 4-2 advantage, and Petersen scored a big insurance goal with 45 seconds left in the middle period to make it 5-2.

Loui Eriksson, another second-round pick by the Stars in ’03, added his first AHL goal to cap the scoring.

Defenseman Dan Jancevski also had a goal and an assist for Iowa, and Dan Ellis made 30 saves for the victory.

Jarrod Skalde recorded a goal and an assist for the Rampage.

PORTLAND 4, ALBANY 2
Tim Brent scored twice as Portland doubled up Albany, 4-2, at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Simon Ferguson had a goal and an assist and Zenon Konopka also scored for the Pirates, who won two of their three games over the weekend.

Nathan Marsters, a second-year pro out of RPI, made 25 saves to win his AHL debut.

Ryan Murphy and Bobby Allen scored for the River Rats.
