Sawada, 23, has appeared in 47 games so far this season with the Moose where he’s scored 18 points (5-13-18) and collected 31 penalty minutes. In his brief season and a half in the AHL, the Richmond, B.C., native has played in 57 games with Manitoba and the now defunct Iowa Stars where he scored 27 points (7-20-27) and 51 penalty minutes. Sawada has yet to play in an NHL game in his career.

Sawada spent four seasons with the Cornell University Big Red where he played 137 total games and scored 31 goals and 45 assists for 76 points and 131 penalty minutes. He was co-captain of the team in 2007-08 and in 2006-07, he scored four powerplay goals and also collected four game-winning goals. He ranks just one game shy of the school’s all-time record for games played.

Sawada was originally drafted in the second round, 52nd overall, by the Dallas Stars in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
