The Iowa Stars announced on Tuesday the signing of defenseman Marty Wilford to a one-year AHL contract.
Per club policy, terms of the contract have not been disclosed.
Wilford becomes the first player signed by the Iowa Stars for the 2006-07 season. The 29-year-old blueliner is a nine-season professional, and has been one of the most durable defensemen in the AHL since 2000, skating in 474 of a possible 480 games over the last six seasons.
In 79 games with the Manchester Monarchs in 2005-06, Wilford notched five goals and 36 assists for 41 points. He has registered 42 goals and 203 assists for 245 points in 474 AHL games with Manchester, Norfolk, Hartford, Milwaukee and St. John’s.
Wilford was originally drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in 1995.
