Stockton acquires Sauve from Portland

Portland Pirates General Manager Eric Joyce today announced that Yann Sauve has been traded to the Stockton Heat for future considerations.

Sauve, a 6-foot-3, 209 pound defenseman from Montreal, Quebec, played in three games with Pirates, notching an assist, before being loaned to the Manchester Monarchs of the ECHL. Sauve appeared in 51 games for the Monarchs scoring seven goals and 22 assists over that time.

“He was playing well with Manchester and deserved to play in the American Hockey League,” Joyce said in a statement Monday. “Stockton appreciated his game and I thought it was the right move to put him in a place where he can play in the AHL and gain exposure for next year. It’s about taking care of the player.”

In his sixth pro season, Sauve was selected in the Second Round (41st Overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Vancouver Canucks. He has played a total of eight NHL games, all with Vancouver.
