Sullivan works overtime to nab AHL honor

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that San Antonio Rampage defenseman Sean Sullivan has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 11, 2009. Sullivan scored two overtime goals and added three assists in the Rampage’s two-game weekend series at Abbotsford.

In the inaugural game at the Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre on Oct. 9, Sullivan had a second-period helper, assisted on the game-tying goal with 36.2 seconds left in regulation and scored the game-winner at 4:54 of overtime as San Antonio pulled out a 6-5 win over the Heat. The next night, Sullivan assisted on the Rampage’s only goal of regulation before converting on a power play in OT to give the visitors a 2-1 victory.

In recognition of his achievement, Sullivan will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Rampage home game.

A 25-year-old native of Boston, Mass., Sullivan finished the week second in the AHL and tied for first among defensemen with seven points (two goals, five assists) in four games. He was drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes in 2003 and spent four seasons at Boston University, earning honors as an NCAA East Second Team All-American as a senior in 2006-07. The third-year pro shows 11 goals and 36 assists for 47 points in 110 career AHL games, all with the Rampage.
