Goaltender Mikael Tellqvist was assigned to the Toronto Marlies on a conditioning assignment this afternoon, and is making his 2006-07 season debut at Ricoh Coliseum as the Marlies host the Hershey Bears.
Tellqvist, 27, has played 143 career AHL games, posting a record of 59-63-14 with two shutouts. In 25 NHL games with the Maple Leafs last season, Tellqvist went 10-11-2 with a 3.13 goals-against average and an .895 save percentage. He also captured a gold medal with Sweden at the 2006 Olympics in Turin.
The Marlies also signed forward Nathan Perrott and defenseman David Pszenyczny to tryout contracts. Perrott spent the entire 2005-06 season in the NHL, tallying two goals, one assist and 56 penalty minutes in 26 games with Dallas and Toronto.
Pszenyczny split last season between Mississauga and Barrie in the Ontario Hockey League, compiling 15 goals, 38 assists and 150 PIM. He played for current Marlies head coach Greg Gilbert in Mississauga.
