Texas dominates San Antonio 6-1

(texasstarshockey.com)Justin Dowling tallied a three-point night and Maxime Fortunus scored a pair of goals as the Texas Stars topped the San Antonio Rampage on Sunday evening at Cedar Park Center by a 6-1 final.

Jussi Rynnas was perfect in limited action, stopping all 16 shots he faced for the Stars.  Dowling finished with a goal and two assists.  John Klingberg, Curtis McKenzie, and Radek Faksa also scored for Texas.

Klingberg opened up the scoring midway through the first period as Dowling’s faceoff win in the offensive zone set up the defenseman for a wrist shot from the point for his first of the preseason.

McKenzie then extended the Texas lead to 2-0 as the AHL Rookie of the Year from a season ago one-timed a Dowling feed from the right circle at 6:56 of the second.  Fortunus followed up with a pair of quick goals to make it a 4-0 lead, scoring from the point on the power play at 16:50 and an even-strength tally just over two minutes later.

The Rampage used a two-man advantage to find the scoresheet when Mark Mancari wristed a power play goal at 4:34 of the third.  Dowling stretched the Stars’ lead to 5-1 on a wrist shot from the slot at 14:15.  Faksa added an empty-net strike for Texas with 2:13 remaining in the contest to solidify the final score.

Jack Campbell came on midway through the second period in relief of Rynnas, who was making his first appearance with the Texas Stars since signing in the offseason.  Campbell stopped 12 shots for Texas.

The Stars finished 2-for-5 on the power play in the game.  San Antonio went 1-for-8.
