Three-J. Brennan strikes again

(CP) — T.J. Brennan scored three goals and added an assist to lead the Toronto Marlies to a 6-3 win over the St. John’s IceCaps in American Hockey League action Saturday afternoon.

It was Brennan’s second hat trick in three games this season. His seven goals and 10 points have helped the Marlies to a 3-0-0-0 start.

Wade MacLeod, John-Michael Liles and Stefan Legein had the other goals for Toronto while Drew MacIntyre stopped 21 shots.

Andrew Gordon, Jerome Samson and Will O’Neill scored for St. John’s. Jussi Olkinuora turned aside 27 shots.

Brennan opened the scoring early in the game when he sent his fifth goal of the season into the net at 1:45. He attacked again 98 seconds later to give the Marlies a 2-0 advantage.

St. John’s responded with three unanswered goals before the end of the opening period. Gordon put the visitors on the scoreboard at 6:11 followed by O’Neill’s first goal of the season at 8:40. Samson gave St. John’s its first lead of the game with a power-play marker at 13:49.

The Marlies evened the game at 3-3 at 15:28 of the second period when Liles scored his team’s second power-play goal of the day. MacLeod scored the eventual game-winner with under one minute remaining in the period, and Legein and Brennan added third-period goals to seal the victory."
