Vancouver re-signs Markstrom

The Vancouver Canucks, parent club of the AHL’s Utica Comets, announced Monday that the team has re-signed goaltender Jacob Markstrom to a two-year deal.

Markstrom, 25, appeared in 32 regular-season games with the Comets in 2014-15, posting a record of 22-7-2. He ranked second in the AHL with a 1.88 goals-against average and second with a .934 save percentage, earning a selection as a Second Team AHL All-Star and leading Utica to the best record in the Western Conference. He also represented the Comets at the 2015 AHL All-Star Classic, held in Utica.

In the postseason, Markstrom was 12-11 in 23 appearances with a 2.11 GAA and a .925 save percentage as the Comets reached the Calder Cup Finals.

Markstrom also appeared in three games with the Canucks in 2014-15.

Over his five North American seasons, Markstrom has a record of 83-65-9 (2.49, .920) with 12 shutouts in 163 AHL games with Rochester, San Antonio and Utica.

In 50 career NHL games with Vancouver and Florida, the Gavle, Sweden, native has a record of 13-28-5 with a 3.19 GAA. He was originally a second-round draft choice (31st overall) by Florida in 2008.
