Washington re-ups Galiev for two years

The Washington Capitals have re-signed right wing Stanislav Galiev to a two-year, $1.15 million contract, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today. Galiev’s contract is two-way during the 2015-16 season and one way during the 2016-17 season.

 

Galiev, 23, played in two games with the Capitals during the 2014-15 season, scoring one goal. The Moscow native made his NHL debut on April 8 against Boston and scored his first NHL goal on April 11 against the Rangers. Galiev registered 45 points (25 goals, 20 assists) in 67 games with the Hershey Bears last season and set career highs in goals, assists and points. He finished the season ranked first in the AHL in power-play goals (15) and tied for first among Bears skaters in goals.
 
The 6’1”, 187-pound right wing recorded a career-high six game point streak from Feb. 6-15 (five goals, four assists) and tallied 10 multi-point games during the 2014-15 season. Galiev has earned 52 points (28 goals, 24 assists) in 100 career AHL games. He was selected by Washington in the third round, 86th overall, in the 2010 NHL Draft.
