Wild pick up Morgan

The Minnesota Wild, parent club of the AHL’s Houston Aeros, on Monday announced that the team has signed free-agent center Jason Morgan to a one-year contract.

Morgan spent most of the 2005-06 season with the Norfolk Admirals, recording eight goals and 31 assists for 39 points in 51 AHL games. He also saw action in seven NHL games with Chicago, earning a goal and an assist.

A native of St. John’s, Nfld., Morgan has appeared in 318 career AHL games with Norfolk, Lowell, Saint John, Hamilton and Springfield, tallying 59 goals and 132 assists for 191 points. He also has seven points (2g, 5a) in 40 NHL games with Chicago, Nashville, Calgary and Los Angeles.

A 6-foot-1, 200-pound center, Morgan was originally selected by Los Angeles in the fifth round of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.
