Portland brings a four-game winning streak to the XL Center for the first meeting of the season with Connecticut… Rookie forward Andy Miele has a point in six straight games for the Pirates (2-6-8), and Matt Watkins had two goals and an assist in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Providence… The Whale are also coming off a 3-2 win over the Bruins, theirs coming Sunday in a shootout… Defenseman Brendan Bell had a goal and an assist for Connecticut in Sunday’s win after scoring the game-winner in overtime vs. Bridgeport on Friday… Eight of the Whale’s first 16 games this season have extended to overtime… The players are different (Portland’s affiliate changed from Buffalo to Phoenix during the offseason), but the Pirates eliminated the Whale from the Calder Cup Playoffs in the first round last spring.

Grand Rapids hosts Hamilton tonight looking to snap a three-game losing streak… The Griffins are 6-9-1-0 on the season but have shut out the Bulldogs in both previous meetings this season, 3-0 on Oct. 18 and 8-0 on Nov. 11… Chris Conner has 3-3-6 in the season series to date, and he leads Grand Rapids with 14 assists and 20 points for the year… Hamilton has been off since Friday’s 4-2 loss to Binghamton in Montreal… The Bulldogs are one point ahead of Grand Rapids for fourth place in the North Division… Frederic St. Denis (3-5-8), Aaron Palushaj (1-7-8) and Andreas Engqvist (3-2-5) are all on recall to the parent Canadiens.

Providence leaves New England for the first time this season and opens a three-game road trip with a visit to Hershey tonight… The Bruins are winless in their last three games (0-2-0-1) after Sunday’s 3-2 shootout loss to Connecticut… Rookie forward Carter Camper had two assists on Sunday and shows 3-4-7 in his last five games for Providence… Jamie Tardif has scored four of the Bruins’ six goals in the last three games… Hershey’s winless slide is at four games (0-1-1-2); no Bears team has gone five games without a win since finishing the 2004-05 season on an 0-5-0-1 skid… Hershey’s Keith Aucoin (4-17-21), Chris Bourque (9-11-20) and Jacob Micflikier (8-11-19) are all among the top 12 scorers in the AHL.

Worcester and Manchester get together at the Verizon Wireless Arena tonight for their fourth of 12 meetings this season… The Monarchs claimed a 3-2 overtime victory on Friday night, with Andrew Campbell netting the winning goal… Jordan Nolan scored two shorthanded goals for Manchester in that game… Jeff Zatkoff, who stopped 46 of 47 Worcester shots on Nov. 12, is 4-0-1 in his last five decisions for the Monarchs… The Sharks snapped a four-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Sunday… Benn Ferriero scored twice in the win, giving him 5-5-10 in eight AHL games this season… Brandon Mashinter (3-2-5) has a goal in two straight games after going his previous 11 games without scoring.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton returns home to face Syracuse tonight looking to shake off last weekend’s winless three-game road trip… The Penguins went 0-1-0-2, but still have a three-point lead over Norfolk atop the East Division… Brad Thiessen (9-4-1, 2.34, .908), who won eight consecutive starts from Oct. 21 to Nov. 11, is 0-2-1 since… Eric Tangradi (8-6-14), Bryan Lerg (6-8-14) and Colin McDonald (4-10-14) share the Penguins’ team scoring lead… Syracuse fell to 7-6-2-1 on the season with a 5-2 loss to Adirondack on Saturday… Patrick Maroon has 4-2-6 in his last six games for the Crunch… Syracuse forward Jean-Francois Jacques (4-4-8) had 27 points in 29 games for Wilkes-Barre in 2006-07.

Charlotte and Norfolk renew their rivalry at Scope tonight… The Checkers (10-6-1-1) enter play in first place in the Midwest Division, while the Admirals (10-7-0-1) are second in the East… Chris Durno, Norfolk’s captain last year, scored his second goal of the season in Charlotte’s 4-3 win over Rockford on Sunday… Checkers forward Jon Matsumoto has 2-5-7 in three games vs. the Admirals this season… Norfolk is opening a six-game homestand after playing 11 of its previous 12 games on the road… Admirals forward Cory Conacher is riding a seven-game scoring streak (5-4-9) and now leads all AHL rookies in scoring with 9-13-22 for the year.

San Antonio continues its seven-game road trip with a visit to Rockford tonight… The Rampage are 2-1-0-0 on the trip so far, winning in Grand Rapids and Chicago before falling in Milwaukee on Sunday… Bill Thomas (3-3-6) and Bracken Kearns (1-3-4) have points in each game of the trip to date for San Antonio… Rockford is opening a five-game homestand after splitting a pair of games in Charlotte over the weekend… Alec Richards stopped 48 shots — an AHL season high — in Friday’s 3-2 shootout win, but allowed four goals on 21 shots before being pulled from Sunday’s rematch… Rostislav Olesz has 2-2-4 in his first two games with the IceHogs… This is the first meeting of the season between the clubs.

Chicago pays a visit to the Cedar Park Center to take on Texas tonight… The Wolves have won four straight road games by a combined score of 18-8, and have won five of their last seven overall… Texas swept the six-game season series from Chicago last year, but the Wolves won the first meeting of 2011-12, a 2-1 victory on Oct. 29… Darren Haydar has recorded four consecutive multi-point games for Chicago (3-8-11)… Wolves goalie Matt Climie (5-2-0, 2.16, .940) reached the Calder Cup Finals with Texas in 2010… Tomas Vincour had eight goals in his last 10 games for the Stars before being recalled by Dallas on Sunday… Travis Morin (4-13-17) remains Texas’s leading scorer, but has been held to 0-2-2 in his last four games.
