LOOKING AHEAD:
It will feel like a playoff series in Houston this weekend as the Aeros host Oklahoma City three times in as many nights… The Barons, who have not been to Houston since Oct. 17 and will make another visit on the regular-season’s final day, have posted a 2-1-0-3 mark thus far on their nine-game road trip… Oklahoma City enters the weekend fourth in the West Division but is just one point from falling out of the playoffs entirely… Tied for second in the AHL with 67 points (29-38-67), Alexandre Giroux should be back in the Barons’ lineup after missing nine of the last 11 games due to NHL recall… Brad Moran has a point in six of his last seven games (1-8-9) for the Barons, and defenseman Bryan Helmer has found the scoresheet in four of his last five (1-3-4)… The Aeros’ four-game winning streak was snapped with a 3-0 loss at Texas on Tuesday, but Houston still sits just one point out of first place in the West… Jean-Michel Daoust has recorded a team-high six points (1-5-6) in six games vs. Oklahoma City this year, pacing the Aeros to a 5-1-0-0 record… Leading scorer Jon DiSalvatore (23-31-54) had been on a four-game scoring streak (4-3-7) prior to Tuesday’s shutout… The Aeros rank fourth in the AHL in team defense, allowing an average of 2.58 goals per game.

The Western Conference’s two third-place teams collide this weekend as Grand Rapids (80 points) visits Texas (84) for a two-game set… The Griffins are percentage points ahead of Toronto for the North’s final guaranteed playoff spot, while the Stars sit three points clear of the West’s postseason cutoff… Both teams hold two victories through the season series’ first four games, including a 4-3 overtime victory by Grand Rapids in Cedar Park on Jan. 18… Francis Pare has registered a point in seven of his last eight games (5-4-9) for the Griffins, while second-year pro Tomas Tatar boasts five goals in his last four contests… Grand Rapids rookie goaltender Jordan Pearce has made 18 consecutive starts between the pipes and is 12-4-2 with one shutout in that span… Texas is looking for its first three-game winning streak since sweeping a road weekend on Feb. 18-20, which began with a victory in Grand Rapids… Travis Morin is riding a five-game scoring streak (5-2-7) for the Stars; Greg Rallo has a point in nine of his last 11 contests (7-5-12); and Aaron Gagnon shows five points (1-4-5) in his last three outings… The Stars are just 8-9-2-1 against the North Division this season.

Making its third visit to New England in the month of March, Charlotte plays at Connecticut and Portland on Friday and Saturday before returning home to battle Norfolk on Sunday… The Checkers’ three opponents this weekend are a combined 12-0-1-1 in their last 14 games… Tonight marks the Checkers’ first visit to the XL Center in Hartford since an opening-night 4-2 loss on Oct. 9… Charlotte outscored Connecticut 6-1 in taking a pair of meetings last month in North Carolina… Zach Boychuk is coming off a three-point effort (2-1-3) in Charlotte’s 5-2 win over Adirondack on Tuesday, and Chris Terry has netted a goal in four of his last five contests (4-1-5)… Terry paces the Checkers overall with career-best totals in goals (29) and points (56) while playing all 72 games… Connecticut has won four straight and is 9-2-0-0 in its last 11 games to open a four-point lead on Worcester for the Atlantic’s final guaranteed playoff spot… Whale forward Kris Newbury has a point in nine of 10 games (6-7-13) since returning from the parent N.Y. Rangers, and Evgeny Grachev has found the scoresheet in three straight (1-3-4) and five of six (1-5-6)… Connecticut goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris is riding a personal six-game winning streak (1.63, .935).

Looking to halt a three-game winless skid (0-2-1-0), Manchester travels to Norfolk this weekend for a two-game set against the Admirals… The Monarchs have totaled just three goals during this slide after racking up 15 goals in the three-game winning streak which immediately preceded it… Manchester forward Oscar Moller leads the team with seven goals and nine points in 10 games during the month of March but is currently on NHL recall to Los Angeles… Corey Elkins (2-5-7) and rookie Brandon Kozun (2-5-7) each have seven points in the month, and Bud Holloway has a team-high 25 goals and 52 points in 72 contests overall… Monarchs rookie goaltender Martin Jones, who ranks among the AHL leaders in goals-against average (2.29) and save percentage (.923), is looking to halt a season-worst four-game personal losing skid… With points in six straight games (5-0-0-1) and 12 of their last 14 (9-2-0-3), the Admirals enter the weekend tied with Charlotte for third place in the East Division and just five points back of second-place Hershey with three games in hand… James Wright is on a season-high five-game scoring streak (5-3-8) for Norfolk, a hot streak which was sparked by his three-goal, four-point effort on Mar. 11 vs. Binghamton… Mike Angelidis has a point in three straight games overall (1-2-3) and shows 2-3-5 in two prior meetings with Manchester this season… Second-year Admirals goaltender Dustin Tokarski is 8-1-2 (1.77, .934) with one shutout in his last 11 outings.
