LOOKING AHEAD:
Having already clinched a playoff spot and the East Division title, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (52-20-0-1, 105 points) can take another step toward sewing up the Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy as the AHL’s top regular-season team tonight when it visits Norfolk in the teams’ final meeting of the regular year… The Penguins are 4-3-0-0 against the Admirals in 2010-11 and have captured two of their previous three visits to the Scope Arena… Pens defenseman Corey Potter leads all scorers with seven points (0-7-7) in the season series, and his plus-24 rating ranks second among all AHL defensemen this year… Bryan Lerg (2-2-4) and Ben Street (2-1-3) have each netted a goal in two straight games for the Penguins, who have received top goaltender Brad Thiessen (32-7-1, 1.88, .924) back from parent-club Pittsburgh… Looking to bounce back from an 8-2 loss in Charlotte on Sunday, Norfolk can move ahead of the idle Checkers for third place in the East Division with a victory tonight… Mike Angelidis has produced a point in five of his last six games (2-3-5) for the Admirals, and defenseman Troy Milam leads the club with four goals and six points in seven match-ups against Wilkes-Barre on the year… The Admirals rank third in the AHL in offense (3.28 goals per game), while the Penguins boast the league’s top-rated defense (2.26 goals allowed per contest).

Needing just one point to clinch their ninth consecutive trip to the Calder Cup Playoffs, the Milwaukee Admirals host San Antonio tonight at the Bradley Center… Milwaukee (40-19-6-8, 94 points) enters tied with Houston for first place in the West Division but holds three games in hand on the Aeros, including tonight’s contest… The Admirals, 3-0-1-0 in their last four outings, are in the midst of playing seven of their final eight games on home ice… Andreas Thuresson (3-2-5) and Kelsey Wilson (2-3-5) are each riding four-game scoring streaks for the Admirals, and Thuresson has racked up three goals in his last two games alone… Chris Mueller, who has been held scoreless in two straight outings since his six-game scoring run (3-7-10) came to an end, shows a team-high seven points (3-4-7) in just five appearances vs. San Antonio this season… The Rampage are still just two points back of a playoff spot in the West Division despite having won just twice in their last 10 games (2-6-0-2)… San Antonio has produced nine goals in its last six games, and leading active scorer Mathieu Beaudoin (21-28-49) is responsible for four of them (4-1-5)… Veteran Randy Robitaille has four points (1-3-4) in his last five games for the Rampage, who feature the AHL’s second-best power play (21.9 percent).

Winners of three straight and seven of eight (7-1-0-0), Houston begins a three-games-in-three-nights stretch on Thursday by hosting Chicago at the Toyota Center… Following this trio of games, the Aeros will have seven days off before hosting Oklahoma City on Apr. 10, the regular season’s final day… Jon DiSalvatore (6-4-10) and Patrick O’Sullivan (4-5-9) are pacing the Aeros during this eight-game surge; DiSalvatore leads the team overall with 26 goals and 58 points, while O’Sullivan has piled up 40 points (17-23-40) in just 32 games since joining Houston from parent-club Minnesota… Aeros rookie goaltender Matt Hackett is 7-2-1 (1.97, .929) in 10 appearances since former counterpart Anton Khudobin was traded to the Boston organization on Feb. 28… The Wolves, 11 points back of the Aeros and part of a multi-team playoff scramble in the West Division, have alternated wins and losses in each of their last seven outings… Former AHL MVPs Jason Krog (4-9-13) and Darren Haydar (3-10-13) each have 13 points in March for the Wolves, and rookie Tim Miller shows 6-4-10 and a plus-11 rating for the month… These teams will battle again on Saturday in suburban Chicago.

Maksim Mayorov, who has 18-13-31 in 65 games for AHL Springfield this season, notched the decisive shootout goal on Tuesday as Columbus took a 3-2 win over Florida… 2010 AHL goaltender of the year Jonathan Bernier pitched a 32-save shutout to lead Los Angeles past Edmonton, 2-0… 2009 AHL defenseman of the year Johnny Boychuk tallied a goal and Tim Thomas posted a 32-save shutout as Boston topped Chicago, 3-0.


BY THE NUMBERS:
