Marcus Foligno’s third-period goal and fourth point of the night stood up as the eventual game winner in the Rochester Americans’ wild 8-7 victory over the Hershey Bears in the Bears’ 75th home opener on Saturday night at Giant Center.
The 21-year-old Foligno spent part of his youth living in Hershey when his dad, Mike, was head coach of the Bears in the 1990’s.
Rochester rallied from 1-0, 5-2 and 6-5 down to tie each time, and scored three power-play goals in a span of 1:58 midway through the third period to take control of the game.
T.J. Brennan had two goals and an assist, Cody Hodgson recorded three assists, Mark Mancari added a goal and an assist and Brayden McNabb dished out two helpers for the Americans, who finished the night 4-for-6 on the power play.
Former Amerk Jeff Taffe (1g, 3a) and defenseman Garrett Stafford (4a) each had four points for the Bears, Jon DiSalvatore recorded a goal and two assists and Ryan Stoa scored twice in the loss.
David Leggio got the win despite allowing seven goals on 39 shots. Dany Sabourin (22 saves on 30 shots) took the loss.
