The New Jersey Devils today restructured the front office operations of their top development team, the American Hockey League’s Albany Devils.
New Jersey Devils executive vice president/general manager Ray Shero will serve the AHL franchise as governor, while assistant general manager Tom Fitzgerald will assume the role of Albany Devils general manager.
Fitzgerald, 47, was previously named New Jersey’s assistant general manager on July 24, 2015. He began his post-playing career in 2007-08 when he joined Shero’s staff in Pittsburgh as the director of player development. He was named assistant coach on February 15, 2009, and was instrumental in helping the Penguins win the 2009 Stanley Cup championship.
In the summer of 2009, Fitzgerald was promoted to the position of assistant to the general manager, which he held for five years. He was promoted to the position of assistant general manager of the Penguins on June 6, 2014, a post he held until joining the Devils this summer.
