Flames sign five

The Calgary Flames, parent club of the AHL’s Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights, announced today the signings of defenseman Zenith Komarniski, left wing Craig MacDonald, left wing David Moss, right wing Brantt Myhres and Cam Severson.

As per club policy, terms and conditions of the deal were not disclosed.

Komarniski, who turns 27 on Aug. 13, played the 2004-05 season with the Syracuse Crunch, posting 14 points (3g, 11a) in 62 games. In 356 career AHL games with Syracuse and Manitoba over six seasons, he has tallied 38 goals and 92 assists for 120 points along with 684 penalty minutes.

An Edmonton native, Komarniski drafted in the third round, 75th overall, by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1996 Entry Draft. In 21 NHL contests with Vancouver and Columbus, he has one goal and one assist.

MacDonald, 28, recorded 10 goals and 18 assists for 28 points in 71 games with the Lowell Lock Monsters in 2004-05. In 226 career AHL matches with Lowell, San Antonio and New Haven, MacDonald has compiled 53 goals and 91 assists for 144 points.

Craig MacDonald tallied 28 points in 71 games for Lowell last season.

Originally drafted by the Hartford Whalers in the fourth round of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, MacDonald, a native of Antigonish, N.S., has appeared in 110 NHL games with Carolina, Florida and Boston, recording 12 points (2g, 10a).

Moss, a 21-year-old left wing, has played the past four seasons with the University of Michigan, posting 94 points (36g, 58a) in 162 games. The native of Dearborn, Mich., was drafted by the Flames in the seventh round in 2001.

Myhres skated with Lowell during the 2004-05 season, appearing in 29 games and recording one goal, one assist and 77 penalty minutes.

A 30-year-old native of Edmonton, Myhres has totaled 10 goals, 20 assists and 416 PIM in 133 career AHL games with Lowell, Providence, Portland, Kentucky and Philadelphia. He has also recorded six goals, two assists and 687 PIM in 154 NHL matches with Boston, Washington, Nashville, San Jose, Philadelphia and Tampa Bay.

Severson played the 2004-05 season with Milwaukee, registering six goals, eight assists and 255 penalty minutes in 63 games. In 265 career AHL games with Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Hartford and Portland, the Canora, Sask., native has picked up 40 goals, 41 assists and 743 PIM.

A 1997 draft choice by San Jose, the 27-year-old Severson has appeared in 33 career NHL games with Anaheim, scoring three goals and adding 58 penalty minutes.
