Griffins, Falcons deal

The Grand Rapids Griffins on Thursday traded defenseman Greg Amadio to the Springfield Falcons for forward Mike Thomas.

Thomas, 21, is a first-year pro who has tallied four points (1-3—4) and 16 penalty minutes in 25 games with Springfield this season. He’s also appeared in two games with the ECHL’s Chicago Express, logging four penalty minutes.

The New Maryland, N.B., native served as captain of the QMJHL’s Saint John Sea Dogs as they captured the prestigious Memorial Cup in 2010-11. He registered 83 points (37-46—83) and 470 penalty minutes in 288 games over his five-year career with the Sea Dogs.

Amadio, 30, skated in 29 games with the Griffins this season, totaling three assists and 108 penalty minutes. The Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., native has won two Calder Cups (Hershey) in his nine-year professional career.
