Biography

Acquired: Selected by the Islanders in the first round (12th overall) of the 2009 National Hockey League Entry Draft. Last Season: Tallied his first pro assist in a 4-2 W at ALB on Oct. 9...Notched his first two-point game with two assists, including the primary assist on Jeremy Colliton's OT game-winner in a 4-3 victory at STJ on Oct. 21...Recorded his first pro goal in a 4-3 W at SPR on Nov. 12...Posted assists in back-to-back wins at PRO and at WOR on March 4 & 6...Named to the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic Eastern Conference Team, but was unable to participate due to injury... Assisted on two of the Sound Tigers three goals in their 4-3 OT loss at CTW in Game 3 of their first-round Calder Cup Playoff series…Made NHL debut with Islanders against Dallas on Dec. 15. 2010-11: Served as Captain of the Oshawa Generals during his third Ontario Hockey League season…Scored 48 points (6g/42a) in 55 games…Led all defensemen in goals, assists and points and tied for second on the team in assists…Posted a career-best plus-minus rating (+13)…Added 12 points (1g/11a) in 10 OHL playoff games, with four multi-point playoff performances…Recorded nine multi-point games in the regular season…Had a seasonhigh six-game point streak from Feb. 16-27 (1g/6a). Represented Canada at the WJC, tallying one assist with a plus-4 rating in four games to help his team to a Silver Medal. 2008-09: Led Oshawa defensemen and finished second in the OHL among rookie defensemen with 63 points (8g/55a) in 68 games...Selected to the 2009 OHL All-Star Classic and the Canadian Hockey League Top Prospects Game...Named Oshawa’s Rookie of the Year and Top Defenseman. 2007- 08: Named the Central Junior Hockey League Player of the Year after netting 42 points (3g/39a) in 58 games with the Kemptville 73s.
