Career Notes

Enters his ninth professional season in 2013-14. Wathier was drafted by Dallas in the sixth round (185th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He signed his fourth NHL contract with Dallas on July 13, 2012 to a two-year two way deal. Wathier originally signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Stars on July 27, 2005, then re-signed a two-year, two-way contract on July 3, 2008 and inked another two-year, two-way contract with Dallas on June 30, 2010. He made his pro and AHL debut with the Iowa Stars on October 6, 2005 against the Peoria Rivermen and then recorded his first career pro point with an assist on October 15, 2005 at Peoria. Wathier scored his first pro goal with the ECHL’s Idaho Steelheads on October 28, 2006 at the Victoria Salmon Kings. He scored his first AHL goal with Iowa on December 5, 2006 at the Chicago Wolves. Wathier made his Texas Stars debut on October 2, 2009 at San Antonio and tallied his first point for Texas with an assist on October 9, 2009 at Houston. He was selected to represent Texas at the 2011 AHL All-Star Classic at the Giant Center in Hershey, where he scored two goals for the Western Conference All-Stars in an 11-8 loss to the Eastern Conference All-Stars. Wathier made his NHL debut with Dallas on October 21, 2009 at Anaheim and has played in 10 career NHL games, earning call-ups to Dallas in each of the last four seasons. He split the 2006-07 season between Iowa and Idaho and he helped lead the Steelheads to the 2007 Kelly Cup Championship, beating the Dayton Bombers in the Finals in five games. Wathier played four seasons of major junior hockey in the QMJHL for the Hull Olympiques and the Gatineau Olympiques. In 253 career QMJHL games he scored 91 points (34 goals, 57 assists) and had 434 penalty minutes. Wathier helped Hull win the 2003 President’s Cup as the QMJHL Champions, beating the Halifax Mooseheads in the Finals in seven games. Hull advanced to the 2003 Memorial Cup Tournament in Quebec City, where they lost in the final to the Kitchener Rangers 6-3. The next year Hull was renamed Gatineau and they won the 2003-04 Jean Rougeau Trophy as the QMJHL regular season champions and won their second straight President’s Cup as the 2004 QMJHL champions. Wathier and Gatineau played in the 2004 Memorial Cup Tournament in Kelowna, British Columbia, losing to the hosts in the final 2-1. In 57 career QMJHL playoff games he had 14 points (2 goals, 12 assists) and 81 penalty minutes. Entering the 2013-14 season Wathier ranks second all-time on the Texas Stars in games played (280), penalty minutes (350), game-winning goals (11) and shots (649), while being tied for second in power play goals (22), ranking third in assists (77) and points (137), tied for third in shorthanded goals (3) and shorthanded assists (3) and fourth in goals (60). He is the Stars’ all-time playoff leader in shorthanded goals (1), tied for first all-time in games played (39), ranks third in penalty minutes (26) and fifth in shots (75).
