Biography
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: 2011-12: Winner of Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy as OHL’s leading scorer after a 102-point season for the Sudbury Wolves; was first Sudbury player to earn Powers Trophy since Mike Foligno in 1978-79… Was also named to OHL’s first all-star team… Acquired by Colorado Avalanche in a trade with San Jose on 2/27/12; trade brought Sgarbossa and forwards Mike Connolly and Jamie McGinn to Colorado in exchange for forwards T.J. Galiardi and Daniel Winnik and a seventh round draft pick… 2010-11: Signed to three-year entry-level NHL contract by San Jose Sharks on 9/21/10… Traded by Saginaw (OHL) to Sudbury (OHL) in December, 2010; led Sudbury in scoring, registering 62 points in 37 games after the trade… was +5 in eight playoff games… 2009-10: Teammate of fellow Avalanche prospect Calvin Pickard with Team Canada at Under-18 World Championships… 2008-09: Finished fourth on Barrie Colts (OHL) in scoring in first major junior season.
