Biography

LAST SEASON | 2010-11 • Led the Rivermen and tied for 10th in the AHL with 69 points (21g, 48a) in 59 games. • Tied the Rivermen AHL record for assists in a single-season with 48 (tied with Mike Mottau from 2005-06). His 69 points were second to only Trent Whitfield’s 78 points during the 2006-07 season. • Appeared in his 100th NHL game on 11/17/10 at Detroit. Finished with 13 games played for the St. Louis Blues. • Earned his third AHL all-star appearance and recorded a goal and an assist for the Western Conference All-Stars in the game. • Named Rivermen Player of the Month for three consecutive months (December, January, February). • Recorded 17 multi-point games (for the second consecutive season), including five three-point games. CAREER 2009-10: Made the Colorado Avalanche roster to open the season. After seven games he was placed on waivers on Nov. 25, 2009. Led the Lake Erie Monsters in points (70) and assists (50) and was fourth in goals (20) while only appearing in 58 games. Recorded 17 multi-point games. Named the “AHL Player of the Month” for December with 23 points (four goals, 19 assists) in 13 games. Lone representative of the Lake Erie Monsters at the 2010 AHL All-Star Classic. Scored a goal and an assist for PlanetUSA in 10-9 loss to Canadian All-Stars. 2008-09: Spent a career-high 61 games in the NHL. Managed 16 points in his 12 AHL games. 2007-08: Made his professional debut with the Lake Erie Monsters. Called up to the Avalanche on Nov. 29, 2007, and made his NHL debut in a 3-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks on 11/30/07. In his second game, scored his first NHL goal against the LA Kings in a 5-2 win on Dec. 1, 2007. Returned to Lake Erie and served as Monsters’ lone representative to the 2008 AHL All-Star Game and scored four points (2g,2a) for PlanetUSA in 9-8 shootout loss to Canada. Was recalled by Colorado four times during the regular season and a fifth time during the playoffs. Scored four of his six NHL goals on the power play. Despite playing in only 50 games, finished second on the Monsters in points (45) and assists (33). NCAA: His 222 points rank eighth all-time at U-M and the 147 assists place him fourth all-time. As a sophomore (2004-05) and senior (2006-07), Hensick was both a Hobey Baker Memorial award finalist and an American Hockey Coaches Association West All-America first team selection. Earned All-Central Collegiate Hockey Association first team honors three times (2003-04, 2004-05, 2006-07) and earned second team recognition once (2005-06). During his senior season, Hensick led the nation in points (69) as well as assists (46). First Wolverine to post 40 points in all four seasons played since Brendan Morrison (1994-97). Helped the Wolverines win a pair of CCHA regular season titles (2004, 2005) as well as a CCHA Tournament championship (2005). U-M advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of his four campaigns.
